Dear GirlSense & NonSense #HappyBirthdayGSAndNS
Dear GirlSense and NonSense,
When I first heard about you beginning, I wondered why there had never been a magazine like this before now. And I mourned the fact that I hadn't heard about you existing until your second issue was coming out. But that passed quickly and I started to work on my submission for your second deadline.
I was overjoyed when I found out that my work was going to be in your next issue, that it was going to be featured in such an inspiring magazine along with so many other amazing artists and writers. I remember thinking that if I could work for any magazine right now, it would be something like you, because it would be so amazing to work for something that stands for the empowerment of young women like you do.
So when I found out that you were accepting applications for an internship, you can imagine how incredibly excited I was. I started working on my application that night. I didn't send it in until the last minute until the deadline, but that's just because I'm a procrastinator. And a perfectionist.
Since I've been an intern for you, GirlSense, my life has altered drastically. Without you, I wouldn't have had the opportunity to design a magazine cover, I wouldn't have worked with and learned from some amazing people, and I wouldn't have had this great experience of my first internship.
I know there'll be many more birthdays to come for you, but happy first birthday, GirlSense and NonSense. I hope your day is as empowering as you are.
